THE murder case against Silence Tivane has been postponed until Wednesday, 9 March, for alternative address verification.
The Mkhuhlu Magistrates Court in Mpumalanga made the decision after the state rejected the address presented by Tivane’s lawyer, Tshembo Mbhalati.
He is accused of stabbing Busi Sambo (20) several times before slitting her throat and dumping her body in the bushes near Chayaza High School in Calcutta early in March.
A small group of residents joined by African National Congress and Economic Freedom Fighters members gathered outside the court to support Busi’s family.
Police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the 25-year-old, believed to be the father of Busi’s child, was arrested by the Calcutta police. The police found an item believed to have belonged to the victim in his possession.
“Police also found some clothes with blood stains at the location where Tivane was arrested.
“Investigators seized and item they believe might have been used in the murder. All confiscated items will form part of the investigation,” said Mohlala.
