THEY allegedly terrorised the community of Mmakaunyane in North West.
And on Friday, 11 March, one of the suspects was killed when he was set alight by an angry crowd. Another suspect, who was also set alight, is fighting for his life in hospital.
Two others managed to escape.
Residents said they were tired of crime in the area and sometimes taking the law into their own hands was the only way to deal with crime.
According to a resident, two men robbed a spaza shop owner of R1 000 and a cellphone at gunpoint.
Residents said they heard gunshots and went to the shop, where they found two men.
They were cornered before being set alight with paraffin.
The two other suspects were in a vehicle and drove away.
Banganovha Mbekwa, leader of Agenda to Citizenry Governors and a councillor at Moretele Municipality, said: “We condemn the spate of attacks on our residents and businesses.
“We equally decry the taking of life in a cruel manner,” he said.
“We would like to remind both the Gauteng and North West police commissioners and safety MECs that Dube cop shop is understaffed.
Speedily reinforcing manpower can be the quickest solution to solving crime.”
Mbekwa said they would arrange a prayer day on 26 March that will be held at Khubamelo Sports Field to seek God’s intervention.
Dube cop shop spokeswoman Warrant Officer Tembi Nowathe said police were investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
