RESIDENTS of Ga-Rankuwa View in Tshwane say they are gatvol with load shedding. What makes their blood boil even more is that power is not restored after the stipulated load shedding period.

Angry residents barricaded Molefe Makinta Road with stones, burned tyres and rubbish to get their message across on Monday, 12 February.

They said they experience electricity blackouts, which can last for over 24 hours.

The concerned residents want Eskom to come and tell them what causes the problem.

Community leader, Fanty Moeti, said they were tired of living in the dark and not having electricity for long hours.

He blamed the power utility for not fixing the problem.

"We experience long electricity blackouts, and they last for four days. We're tired. We've been meeting with Eskom since 2023, but they're not assisting us. They disrespect us," he said.

Fanty said enough is enough and demanded that the problem be resolved.

He said there was water shortage and taps have run dry since November 2023.

"We've engaged officials, but nothing has been done," he said.

Garankuwa Community leader, Stoffel Babedi, said they were complaining about blackouts, water problems and blocked sewage.

"We're tired of poor service delivery in our area. Some sections have been without water," he said.

"Our load shedding is not two hours per schedule. It takes over a day to be restored," resident Godfrey Mathope said.

Gauteng Police spokeswoman, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said: "No injuries or damages were reported, and no one was arrested during the protest."

While City of Tshwane spokesman Lindela Mashigo said they can only assist on the two issues, provided the city is supplied with reference numbers of the said complaints to lodge follow-ups with the relevant departments.

"I'll look into the matter after speaking to the officials as to why the power is not restored on time in the area," Eskom spokeswoman, Amanda Qithi, said.
