ANC YOUTH League (ANCYL) treasurer general, Zwelo Masilela, has condemned undocumented foreigners who are involved in criminal activities and selling drugs to young people in Mzansi.

Speaking during the 2019 ANC Manifesto Review rally in Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga on Saturday, 16 September, Masilela said: "We request the ANC to be very firm on illegal foreigners. It can't be correct that South Africans are incapable of running spaza shops. There's nothing strategic or difficult about running a spaza shop."

He said all undocumented foreigners must be deported.

"We condemn people who are here to sell drugs to our youth. People who are here to commit dangerous crimes, murders and all the wrong things in this country because they know very well that they can't be accountable to the state and the police because they are not documented.

"So, we're saying Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi must tighten the borders, and Police Minister Bheki Cele and his deputy Cassel Mathale tighten police safety because the youth of South Africa is dying because of nyaope as a result of illegal foreigners who supply drugs to our young people," he said.

Masilela said ANCYL has just come back from celebrating the movement's 79th anniversary and they must mobilise young people to ensure they vote for the ANC in 2024.

"Those who are saying 2024 is their 1994 are correct as the ANC will win with a similar majority like it did in 1994. The youth of South Africa will vote for the ANC because it's the only liberation movement that cares for the people of this country," he said.

He said the ANC has provided shelter, water and many other services over the past years, though there is still more to be done.

"We're saying they must be able to occupy strategic positions in the legislature and Parliament. It can't be correct that we are continuously led by people who will not be there when we experience the future. You can't talk about 2030 when in 2030 you yourself will be dead. Allow us as youth of the country to speak about the future and be part of decision-making in Parliament or legislature," he said.
