ANCWL postpones conference.

THE ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) still can’t hold its elective conference.

ANCWL national task team (NTT) convenor, Baleka Mbete, told the media on Tuesday, 11 July that 13th national conference has been postponed by a week to sort out certain issues.

Mbete said the organisation realised on Monday night during a meeting led by the ANC secretary general's office that they were not ready and so asked for a postponement.

“It was around midnight when all collectively sitting in that meeting came to the conclusion that we need an extra week," she revealed.

She said it was impossible to provide a "perfect product" when it came to a conference, but the meeting's focus had been on the integrity of the process leading up to it.

“Personally, I was satisfied that the majority of what needed to be done for ensuring that we do hold a credible conference was done. It was not 100 percent, but it was mainly done,” she said.

Mbete admitted that there were disputes in some branches that had not been properly addressed. For example, the NTT received dispute notifications directly from branches in spite of party guidelines which indicate that these should be launched in the nearest party region.

The conference has been moved to 21 to 23 July.

NTT coordinator Maropene Ramokgopa said 2700 of about 2980 branches were ready to attend conference.

The front runners for the presidency position are former ANCWL president Bathabile Dlamini, who was initially disqualified for her criminal record, Sisisi Tolashe, and Thembeka Mchunu - the wife of Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu.
