A VIDEO emerged this week on social media showing the mayor of the Kopanong Municipality in the Free State, Xolani Tseletsele, allegedly threatening a resident at a private home.
In the video, the fuming mayor is seen lashing out at a resident in front of children. It is alleged that the resident complained to the mayor, Tseletsele, about potholes on Facebook.
The Mayor's ANC membership has since been temporarily suspended after his actions.
In the video, Tseletsele can be heard saying: "You talk too much; don't do that again."
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has since then ordered the suspension of Tseletsele.
Mbalula said the party has directed through its structures that the Free State Mayor must be recalled immediately and subjected to disciplinary processes for his unbecoming conduct.

"Such behaviour not only taints the integrity of the ANC but also undermines the dignity of our people," said Mbalula.
"Rule 25.56 of the ANC Constitution provides that The NEC, NWC, PEC or PWC, as the case may be, may at any stage prior to the commencement of disciplinary proceedings against a member summarily suspend the membership of that member in accordance with the provision of this rule," he said.
He also quoted rule 2, 5.57 (3), which he said further provides that: "Before making such a decision, the NEC, the NWC, The PEC or the PWC, as the case may be, shall consider the impact on the repute of the Organization of the alleged violation or act of misconduct and/or further acts of misconduct that the member could engage in."
