Moleko, who was a constituency officer in the provincial government, died in a head-on collision between his VW Amarok bakkie and a VW Polo Sedan. The incident occurred on the R503 Lichtenburg-Mahikeng Road at about 7.30pm on Sunday, 31 March.
According to ANC chief whip in the North West government, Paul Sebegoe, two vehicles caught fire on impact, resulting in the two drivers who were alone in their respective vehicles succumbing to their injuries at the scene of the horrific accident near Blaauwbank.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Comrade Shakes whose contribution in the coordination of ANC Parliamentary Constituency Offices across the province and the support that he rendered the ANC Provincial Department of Information and Publicity (DIP) was invaluable,” said Sebegoe.
He said that that Moleko who had earlier in the day supported the ANC Easter Church Services Visit programme in Potchefstroom and thereafter proceeded to another in Ottosdal/Letsopa in the Tswaing Sub-District of the ANC Ngaka Modiri Molema Region was on route home when he was involved in the road crash that claimed his life.

He said that Moleko, who joined the office of the ANC Chief Whip in 2009, has left an indelible mark as he leaves behind a legacy of selflessness that characterised his loyal service to the glorious movement and revolutionary life.
"Moleko was a live wire with a larger-than-life personality, forthright as well as a courageous and devoted cadre that understood the importance of supporting the organization as the only vehicle to change the lives of people.
“His love for the movement, interpersonal skills as well as ability to network as a team player made this revolutionary cadre an indispensable member of the ANC support staff; hence we will be poorer without him because he was one, we could count on,” said Sebegoe.
He conveyed the condolence of the ANC caucus to the Moleko family through the head of caucus support staff, Vincent Dila, who was promptly sent to accompany Moleko's wife and son to the horrific accident scene.
Dila said that the NWPL choir will also miss his bass baritone, his love for his colleagues, his comradeship, camaraderie and humour.
"He underscored that the ANC caucus deeps its revolutionary banner in honour of Moleko as a patriot and a courageous cadre who dedicated his life to serving the movement that he loved dearly," he said.
Moleko, who hailed from Itsoseng but was now living at Mosiane View in Mahikeng, is survived by his wife, son (20) and mother.
North West police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani said: "We are investigating a case of culpable homicide after the accident."
