WARD 28 councillor Wilson Fulani, from Lethabong outside Rustenburg, North West, has survived an attack.
He said the incident happened on Monday, 26 September, while attending a meeting at a local school.
Fulani, who is also a chairman of the ANC executive committee in his home branch, said a group of people disrupted the meeting. Then he was beaten up and threatened while his car was later burnt down.
“I was accused of thinking I was better than anyone. I felt humiliated and helpless being kicked at and called names in front of people who regard me as a leader. It is really painful. What happened to me has badly affected me and my family. We fear for ourselves,” said Fulani.
He added that he might have lost his car keys during the chaos, resulting in him leaving it at the school.
“I was then called by someone at night, informing me that the car was on fire. I want the people arrested. It must stop that people get away with crime so easy,” he said.
Fulani said he believed that the attack was politically influenced.
Colonel Adele Myburgh confirmed the attack, saying two cases had being opened.
“Cases of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property have been opened. Investigations into the matter continue, and no arrests have been made.”
