A WARD councillor in Ekurhuleni accused of rape has been suspended!
There has been pressure on the ANC councillor to step aside after being charged with rape.
In their letter on Friday, 17 March, the regional ANC in Ekurhuleni demanded that "every cadre accused of, or reported to be involved in, corrupt practices accounts to the integrity committee immediately or faces disciplinary processes".
The councillor, who is from Daveyton, allegedly raped a member of the African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) after the funeral of one of their members in March 2022.
The incident happened in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.
The councillor will make his fourth appearance on 3 April at Ermelo Regional Court.

The disgraced councillor has been under pressure from ward members to step own.
"We wanted him suspended as his actions didn't paint a good picture against the organisation," said community leader Alinah Tsotetsi.
Community leader and member of ANC Emmanuel Mphahlele confirmed the resignation.
"It's officially acknowledged that the councillor was suspended. He has been told that he must not be seen addressing community activities, and projects and participate in miscellaneous forums executing powers and authorities within the jurisdiction of the ward, "said Mphahlele.
In a statement, ANC acting regional secretary Jongisizwe Dlabathi said the step-side rule stands, pending the outcome of the court in criminal charges that he is facing.
