THE mood was high when family members, friends, and neighbours gathered to celebrate with Gogo Mariam Magano, who was turning 100.
The birthday was held in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 9 December.
The emotional gogo said: “First of all, I would like to thank God Almighty for giving me strength to reach 100 years."
“I want to thank everyone who made this party possible," she said.
"It's grateful to be remembered and cherished while one is still alive. This means a lot to me."
Gogo Mariam's message to the youth was short and sweet.
"Respect your parents and live a responsible life," she said.

She has 20 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Gogo's daughter, Motlalepule (80), said her mother is a loving person who taught them the values of life.
"She was strict and wanted the best for us and we are happy she has reached 100 years."
Gogo's granddaughter, Millicent Magano (51), said: "We feel honoured that she's still alive, and we thank God for blessing us with our grandmother."
"We still live by her teaching even today, she taught us mostly the importance of fearing God," she said.
