MADALA and gogo are still in great shock.

This after the walls and rooms of their home were damaged by heavy rainfall in the early hours of Monday, 8 January.

According to the family, all five members were asleep when the incident happened.

Madala Amos Shongwe (78) and gogo Margaret Shongwe (76) from SNS in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, are appealing for help to rebuild their home.

Roseline Shongwe (49), who was asleep in one of the rooms, said lightning struck and damaged the back wall of the rooms and the roof.

"I couldn't sleep after the incident because it kept raining," she said.

Roseline said she had never seen anything like that before.

Madala Amos said he was worried and needed urgent help.

"I'm weak and can't rebuild my home as I am a pensioner. I am too old now. I built this house almost 40 years ago. Please, I beg for help to rebuild the damaged parts," he said.

Agnes Shongwe (57) is also pleading for help so that her parents' house can be repaired.

"The rain has left a trail of devastation in our home. The soil hit our brick wall hard, which fell and damaged the rooms," she said.

She's also asking the municipality or the community for help.

"My little sister was sleeping in one of the rooms, but no one was hurt," she said.

Agnes said the damage could cost more than R80 000. She said the walls and roof need to be repaired.

"My parents are worried and fragile," Agnes said.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesman, deputy chief Charles Mabaso, said: "The incident was never reported as an emergency to our emergency call centre."
