NEWLY inaugurated Amashangana Traditional Council chief, Hosi Abednigo Nxumalo, has promised to serve and work for his tribe.
He was speaking during his official coronation event at the Thulamahashe old stadium near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga on Saturday, 3 June.
He ascended the throne as a successor of his late father, Hosi Eric Mpisane Nxumalo, who died at the age of 60 on 3 March 2021.
The ceremony was attended by amakhosi from as far as Limpopo, KZN, Mpumalanga and Mozambique, as well as MECs Mandla Ndlovu and Sasekani Manzini. It was also attended by ANC National Executive Committee member Violet Siwela, Bushbuckridge Mayor Sylvia Nxumalo as well business people and community members.
"I am really happy! I am excited as this long-awaited day has finally arrived. I am ready and promise to serve and work for you. Please, support me and give the respect I deserve," he said.

Mpumalanga House of Traditional Leaders and also Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) President, Kgoshi Mathibela Mokoena, said: "Today, we're here to witness no vacancy here at Amashangana Traditional Council. Ndabezitha, you're welcomed and feel warm to Ndabezitha’s world."
Mpumalanga Premier Refi we Mtshweni-Tsipane officially handed over the certificate of recognition to Hosi Nxumalo and said indeed it was a pleasure to join the people of Thulamahashe on the historic day.
"This coronation marks the end of the painful era that befell the Amashangana Traditional Council following the passing of undabezitha Eric Mpisane Nxumalo. Today's coronation ushers a new beginning for the people of Thulamahashe and affirms our identity as Africans," she said.
Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola said: "We 're here to welcome the Nxumalo chieftaincy which the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs finally gave them what belongs to them after the Traditional Council decided as to who should lead them going forward."
