AFRICAN National Congress (ANC) NEC member, David Makhura, said the party won't be part of coalitions that would compromise its own standing.
He said this during a media briefing on Saturday, 6 January at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
Makhura said the organisation has been reviewing its participation in coalitions which aren't producing anything positive for the country.
"Every municipal coalition must be assessed on the basis of whether it is really improving service delivery. The work that the local government intervention team is doing has enabled us to also assess the various coalitions.

"We've been busy reviewing and accessing various municipalities where the ANC is involved. We'll complete this work at the end of January. We've identified municipalities where things are not improving and the ANC will be able to announce at the end of January in which municipalities it will not be able to participate in coalitions," he said.
Makhura said coalitions should not be about political parties wheeling and dealing but should rather be about serving the interests of the people.
He said that the NEC has not yet discussed coalitions for national and provincial government because their attitude is clear on the national and provincial framework.
"We're going into these elections to win with an overwhelming support to continue as the governing party in South Africa. This framework is to enable us in the municipalities that are not able to move, that is why we're saying they're not working for the people and communities.
"The ANC can't participate in coalitions for its own sake, so we are reviewing our participation so that we can complete this process at the end of January," said the former Gauteng premier.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit a local church on Sunday, 7 January as part of build-up activities ahead of the organisation's 112th birthday celebrations that will held in Mbombela on Saturday, 13 January.
