TONGA cops in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, are looking for a female suspect in connection with the theft of money at Maqhawe Combined School.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, on Friday, 24 June, it was discovered that the suspect had fled with an undisclosed amount of money collected from pupils for an educational trip.

Mohlala said the suspect, believed to be in her 20s, was employed as an administration clerk at the said school.

“She was tasked with collecting money from the pupils. On the day of the trip, the pupils were left stranded after she (suspect) failed to show up. They tried to contact her but were unsuccessful as her phone was switched off,” Mohlala said.

He said the whereabouts of the woman were unknown.

Her landlord revealed she had also moved out of her rented house.

Mohlala said police have registered a case of theft and requested anyone with information to call Detective Warrant Officer James Khoza on 079 364 3533.

Alternatively, the public can call the CrimeStop number on 08600 10111.
