Cables and wires hang from the trees on the path where the man was electrocuted in Sallies Village in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni
Cables and wires hang from the trees on the path where the man was electrocuted in Sallies Village in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni

A MAN in his late 30s died of electrocution at Sallies Village in Brakpan Ekurhuleni on Saturday, 3 February.

The lifeless body was discovered by a passer-by in the veld, who then informed local residents.

A concerned resident, Sanet Homan, said they had a problem with illegal connections.

"Sadly, a man lost his life because of illegal connections lying on the ground. Most people use the path to get to different places. He might have stepped on it and got electrocuted," Sanet said.

Another resident, Lisa Mbele, said when they arrived at the scene, they found a cable around the deceased's left foot.

"This shows that the deceased didn’t see the cable, stepped on it and got electrocuted. Local residents who came to the scene were unable to identify him and we hope his family will be found," Lisa said.

"A man has lost his life, and his family will never see him because of the illegal connections. We have heard that the cable that may have electrocuted the deceased was removed before the police arrived. This shows that some people didn’t care about the deceased but just wanted the cable to perhaps use it for a new connection," she said.

Police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed the incident.

She said the lifeless body of a man had been found in the veld and an investigation had been launched.
