FIVE students were arrested for public violence at the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein on Thursday morning, 30 June.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, the operational commander warned the students to disperse within a given time as they were contravening the conditions stipulated in an issued court order.
“The protesting students became violent and started throwing stones and bottles at the police and security officers.

"Police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd. The other group ran into King Edward Street and blocked traffic by placing stones on the road surface,” Covane said in a statement.
He said police arrested five male students aged between 18 and 22 years.
Covane said a case of public violence and the contravention of a court order was registered at Parkweg Police Station.
"The arrested students are expected to appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday 4, July,” he added.
