“It is refreshing to hear young people standing here as the president of the ANC Youth League said that they insist that the ANC fights corruption, even among us. It is refreshing to also hear the ANC Veterans League repeating the same thing. There is a generational commitment to fight corruption. We will continue to conduct lifestyle audits at provincial and national level,” he said.

Ramaphosa said that Gauteng is going through a difficult time of zama zamas.

“We are going to tackle that problem and make sure that they raid this province of zama zamas and illegal mining. We are going to work together with our security forces to make sure we address this problem,” he said.

The president said that the province and other parts of the country continue to have foreign nationals who do not have documents.

“Recently, a programme has been started to examine who among the foreign nationals doesn’t have documents, and we have several of them being arrested. Those who don’t have permits to be in South Africa better know from now that South Africans want this country to be occupied by people who have documents or who are citizens of our country,” said Ramaphosa.

He made a commitment to making sure the people of South Africa have a better life which involves addressing the issue of gender-based violence.

“Gender-based violence is a scourge that we must address in our country because it affects every community and it touches the lives of most families, and it is a scourge that leads to high levels of crime particularly crimes against women and children.

“As we committed in our 2019 manifesto that there are quite a few interventions that we are going to embark upon to address the issue of gender-based violence. We have implemented quite a few things we committed to. For instance, we said we must pass rules that will make per ability to deal with GBV much easier.

“Once you touch, rape or kill a woman, you should not get bail. People who commit such crimes are animals and not people,” said Ramaphosa
