THE road to success is not an easy one but through all the tests and tribulations, the class of 2023 pulled through.
These words echoed on Thursday morning, 18 January, when Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga held a ministerial breakfast with the 2023 matric top achievers and their parents at the MTN Innovation Centre in Joburg.
Addressing the top achievers, the minister praised the top achievers for their hard work and regarded them as a beacon of hope in the country.
“Your adaptability and your fortitude as top achievers continue to show and confirm that excellence is achievable in the phase of diversity and even adversity.
"We recognise that each child is a pillar upon which the future of this nation will be built…As you embark on your future endeavours whether in higher education or other pursuits, carry with you the lessons which have brought you here as well as the values which you were instilled with through your schooling year,” Motshekga said.

Meanwhile, MTN SA chief human resources officer Tebogo Maenetja advised the pupils not to lose sight of the little joys while chasing their dreams.
“Dream big but also dare to take the small spaces towards those dreams. Remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single tear. As you stand ready to march through this new phase in your life, I want you to first embrace failure as a stepping stone. Don't fear but embrace it as a part of your growth.
"Secondly, stay curious and keep learning. The world is your classroom and every person you meet has something to teach you," she said.
Meanwhile, the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) announced the results of its matric class 2023, being 98,46% in the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.
