Keeping your 4-5 clean...

WE grew up being told that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

This automatically became our life’s nursery rhyme, which turned out to be true.

According to healthline.com, eating an apple daily is linked to having a lower risk of many chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Thus, proving that having a daily routine has its perks.

The same can be said about washing your 4-5.

Health experts advise that washing your 4-5 daily is important.

According to livehealthily.com, gently washing your 4-5 once a day with warm water is sufficient to maintain good hygiene.

Gently wash the 4-5 with warm water each day when you are taking a shower or bath.

If you have a foreskin, pull it back gently and wash underneath.

If you don’t wash underneath the foreskin correctly, a cheesy-looking substance called smegma may begin to gather.

Smegma is a natural lubricant that keeps the 4-5 moist.

It’s found on the head of the 4-5 and under the foreskin.

If smegma builds up in the foreskin, it can start to smell, stop you easily pulling your foreskin back and become a breeding ground for bacteria.

This can cause redness and swelling of the head of your 4-5 called balanitis.

Experts also warn that we should not forget to also clean the base of the 4-5 and the testicles daily, because this is where sweat and hair can combine to produce a strong smell.

These areas need frequent washing to stop sweat from accumulating, especially as they are enclosed in underwear for most of the day.

Make sure the area between the base of the testicles and the anus is also clean and odour-free.

Furthermore, while you’re down there, it’s a good idea to check your testicles for lumps once a month after a warm bath or shower.

Sadly though, a new survey from The Derm Review found that 60% of men are washing their 4-5s all wrong.

According to The Derm Review, 21,6% of men surveyed fail to wash their 4-5s daily.

And 11,9% of respondents said that they only wash their genitals once every few days, and, worse, almost 10% wash their 4-5 once a week or less.
