Popular vocalist Zanda Zakuza (29) has risen above criticism, betrayal and industry challenges.
The singer from Durban recently opened up to SunBuzz and revealed that the past three years have been challenging for her.
“There’s been a lot of back-stabbing and jealousy coming from people I trusted and considered friends. Many of them even tried to block my music career. They wanted to take me down and out of the music industry. When their plans failed they started asking those around me how I survived,” she said.

“I know this information because I was tipped by close friends that a plan had been hatched to remove me from the music industry.
“I’ve been told that I am blocking other people’s success. I don’t know how because I am only using my talent. These attacks started in 2019 and they became worse in 2021. I went through the most but I made sure I wasn’t sinking.”
Zanda said she never approached her haters but instead wrote a song, Khanyisa.

“The song was the result of betrayal and rejection in the industry. I collaborated with a United Kingdom-based artist Xosti and also featured Emza. Afrotainnment producer Prince Bulo produced it and gave us the beats. The song is already out and it is part of Xosti’s full album,” she said.
Without going into details, she went on to say: “I feel hurt that people do not recognise my hard work. They think I got here through favours. I worked hard and I deserve to be where I am. In the same breath, I am happy and I’ve drawn a lot of strength from my challenges. I’ve survived.”
