AWARD-WINNING rapper Zakwe is on a journey to lose weight.

Zakwe started hitting the gym two weeks ago and is focused on getting healthy and fit. His goal is to lose 30kgs by May.

“For me, there are things I would see and not like about myself. Like when I see my photos or I’m supposed to go for a photoshoot. My weight has made me lose confidence. I don’t even like watching myself on TV,” said the rapper.

“It’s because I know I wasn’t always this big. I know where I come from weight wise and seeing myself like this, I wasn’t happy. At this age, going towards my 40s, I should be taking care of myself and my body,” she said.

Zakwe said he has decided to sync his weight loss journey hand-in-hand with the dropping of his new album.

“I am not dropping the album if I still haven’t lost the amount of weight I want to shed. Through this album, I want to inspire everyone who’s going to listen to it and say when we set our goals, we reach them,” he said.

“I had been procrastinating for a while, always saying I’d go to the gym. I’m glad I finally did it. It’s been two weeks now and it’s hard, I’m not going to lie. From next month, I’ll start weighing myself. For now, I’m getting my body used to working out,” he said.

However, Zakwe said in the meantime he’ll drop a single while he’s working on his weight.

Speaking about the album, the rapper added: "It’s a soulful album. We live in times where people don’t have jobs, the government isn’t helping much, and they are letting us down. It’s a political fight, more than fighting for people and that’s what the album is about.”
