THE South African Hip Hop Awards have been moved to Friday, 10 December. The awards ceremony was supposed to air on Saturday, 4 December on SABC 1, but didn’t.

One of the organisers, Rashid Kay, told Daily Sun the awards were moved by the channel.

“They chose this weekend for the Amapiano Awards and moved us,” he said.

Rashid said they were told about the move later and that’s why they didn’t let their followers know.

The awards are celebrating 10 years this year with the theme #TheManifetso, inspired by the local government elections.

They also added a new category, Artist of the Decade and the nominees are Khuli Chana, Cassper Nyovest, A-Reece, Riky Rick, Nadia Nakai, Da L.E.S, Emtee, K.O, AKA, Nasty C, Stogie T, Reason, YoungstaCPT, Gigi Lamayne, and Zakwe.

SABC’s marketing manager for video entertainment, Dichaba Phalatse said: “The awards were scheduled for 4 December, but we identified Fridays as a better fit for awards as part of our December schedule. The new date is 10 December, this Friday, at 9pm.

“This also forms part of the strategy to overflow audiences from Uzalo.”
