SINDISIWE Mathe is threatening to sue UKhozi FM.

This after she won R30 000 in the iNgoma eHlukanisa uNyaka competition, also known as Summer Song of the Year, but never received the money.

She said she started to vote as soon as voting lines opened in December.

“I voted for DJ Hlo’s song, Isibani. On 31 December, DJ Hlo’s song won. I was excited because I knew my votes didn’t go to waste,” said Sindisiwe.

Her excitement was doubled when she received a call from Ukhozi FM presenters, Nonhlanhla “Mroza” Buthelezi and Sipho “Sgqemeza” Mbatha. They informed her live on air that she voted more than the other listeners and therefore won R30 000.

“I’m not really sure how much I spent voting for DJ Hlo’s song, but I was consistent and voted every day. In January, I received a call from UKhozi FM informing me I won R30 000. I was excited and started to make plans for the money,” she recalled.

Sindisiwe said they phoned her again after an hour and took her banking details.

“They asked me to send a bank statement and copy of my ID, which I did. There was no specific date for the payment, but they said it would be soon,” she said.

But there was no payment in January and February.

“I started to make calls by early March. They were surprised I was still not paid and told me other winners had been paid already, so they didn’t understand why I was still not paid. They promised to pay me by end of April. But there was still no payment by the end of April,” she said.

Sindisiwe said she hoped to pay her fees at University of KwaZulu-Natal with the money.

UKhozi FM confirmed that Sindisiwe was not paid due to a technical error.

SABC spokeswoman Gugu Ntuli said: “The SABC can confirm that the payment for the winners of the Ukhozi FM’s iNgoma eHlukanisa uNyaka campaign was processed, however only one payment was not finalised due to a technical error.

“The winner who is affected by this has since been communicated to directly and the matter is now resolved and payment is expected to be made by the end of May.”
