accreditation

MASKANDI star Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele is an angry man after he was kissed by a fan during a performance.

On Monday 15 November, video clips of the incident started making the rounds on social media.

Mthandeni can be seen performing on stage when a young man grabs him from behind and kisses him.

He then fights the man off and hits him in the face.

Mthandeni told Daily Sun: “I would like to apologise to those who felt I was wrong.

“I understand the customer is always right but in this case, I felt unsafe.

“In my entire life, I have never been kissed by another man and if this is how it’s going to be, I’m not ready for it. I’m not a prostitute and I’m not going to allow a man to stick his tongue in my ear.”

He said the incident happened at a private event in Newtown, Joburg, on Saturday 13 November.

“As I was performing, I noticed this young man. He started jumping up and down. I didn’t have a problem but this is because fans are always excited to see me,” he said.

“But then he started being disruptive. I don’t know when and how he got on stage but before I knew it, he was strangling my neck.

“He then kissed my neck and pushed his tongue deep in my ear.”

Mthandeni said everything happened very fast.

“His grip was very tight and I felt someone was attacking me. In an effort to free myself, I elbowed him in the face and he let go of me.

“I continued with my performance and acted as if everything was normal but deep down, I was hurt,” he said.

Mthandeni said he didn’t know if he was set up.

“All I know if my life could have been in danger. It could have been a weapon and not a kiss. There’s also the risk of corona,” he said.
