ON SATURDAY 18 September, Lillian Dube was honoured for her contribution to the entertainment industry over the last two decades.

The veteran actress was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Royalty Soapie Awards, which took place at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Centre in Joburg.

The awards ceremony was hosted by actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa and radio personality Felix Hlophe, while Candice Modiselle handled the red carpet.

Lillian told Daily Sun she was grateful to be recognised while she was still alive.

“In many cases, people receive such awards when they are no longer alive and to be here accepting my own lifetime achievement award makes me feel blessed and loved.

“It’s all God’s favour,” she said.

“Such moments take me back to the days when I started out and my mum gave me her blessing. She said whatever I chose to do, I must do well.”

Lillian said her journey in the industry had been incredible. “This is because I love what I do. It was never about money. The money is just a bonus. I credit my long-lasting career in this cutthroat industry to always being willing to learn,” she said.

“As all of you know, I never went to art schools but this was my passion and I followed it. Whenever I’m with young producers and directors, I’m the one asking questions.

“I learn through them.”

Another winner was Lebogang Mpyana who walked away with the Viewers Choice Award.

Diep City was the night’s big winner of the night with seven awards.

Awards founder Winnie Ntshaba said it was the fifth ceremony and for her, it was a dream come true.

“As an actress, I saw a need to create a platform to celebrate the hard work of individuals and productions in the daily TV drama industry,” she said.

The awards were recorded and will broadcast on 2 October on SABC1. See the full list of the winners online at www.dailysun.co.za.
