ACTOR Menzi Biyela is one of Mzansi’s top actors.

He might have won the hearts of TV fans and have them eating out of the palm of his hands with the characters he has portrayed so far but apart from his acting talent, he has unleashed another layer to his craft.

Menzi is also a talented singer.

He revealed he’s planning to release his debut album in July. But for now, he has released two Afro-soul singles titled Mama and Emqashweni.

He said he understands that nothing is permanent in art. He said the sustainability of the acting career is, most of the time, uncertain. That is why he chose to multi-task.

“Things are looking good in my acting career. But let’s not forget that the future in this industry can’t be predicted and that’s why one must play the game carefully,” said Menzi.

He said the track Mama is aimed at paying respect to women.

Menzi said he doesn’t only sing but also raps.

“My music has an element of hip-hop. I rap and sing. These are my talents and I’m using the opportunity. Yes, that’s the life of an artist. We grab every opportunity that comes our way,” he said.

The actor was first noticed by TV fans when he played Mandlakhe, the right hand man of the notorious thug Khulekani, on the canned e.tv show Rhythm City.

He soon joined SABC1’s Uzalo, where he plays Pastor Gwala.

He said he has always loved singing.

“I’ve always loved music. And I’ve always been singing, but now I believe it’s time Mzansi hears what I have to offer. I’ve been performing at small events and I love the feedback. I love how people react to my offering,” he said.
