UMHLOBO Wenene FM listener, Thokozani Susani (31) from Mamelodi in Tshwane has won a brand new car. He won the Renault Kwid from Umhlobo Wenene’s SABC studios in Auckland Park, Joburg.

The radio station was celebrating its 62nd birthday competition and it was running a competition called Phumelela Isithuthi (win a car), and it was launched on Monday, 1 August.

Thokozani told Daily Sun: “I won a brand new car. What makes this special is the fact that I’ve never won anything my life. This was my first ever prize and I’m excited about it. I won the car on Wednesday, 31 August but I only collected it on Friday. On Sunday I took it to church and I enjoyed the ride. It still feels like a dream come true. When I entered the competition I didn’t really expect to win, but I was doing it for the fun of it. Little did I know that I was in for a huge surprise.”

He said he will be using the car to travel from Joburg to Eastern Cape, especially on holidays.

“I had an old car and it was already giving me some problems. But now God has smiled my way and I’m grateful for this. I live in Joburg but my home town is Mqanduli in the Eastern Cape,” he said, adding that the car comes with no terms and conditions.

Loyiso Bala, business manager for Umhlobo Wenene FM, congratulated Thokozani and said: “Phumelela isithuthi kuMhlobo’ brought us closer to our audiences as we celebrated our 62 years on radio. The competition allowed us to better understand our audience’s music choices as they cast their votes. These kinds of initiatives allow us to reward our loyal listeners. We look forward to doing more of the same in the future,”

According to SABC, the competition generated more than 50 500 SMSes from listeners across the country, given the reach of Umhlobo Wenene.
