UKHOZI FM presenter Selby "Selbeyonce" Mkhize still can’t believe she scooped an award in the category she feared the most.

Many people were surprised when she was pitted against her co-host on the Woza Nabangani Bakho afternoon drive show, Tshatha Ngobe. They were both nominated in the Afternoon Drive Presenter category at the SA Radio Awards.

The awards were held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng on Saturday, 2 December.

It was her first radio presenting award, winning against Tshatha, Sakina Kamwendo of SA FM and Luks Gidane of Umhlobo Wenene FM.

The 34-year-old from Inanda, north of Durban said she didn’t expect to win as she thought Tshatha or Sakina would take it home as they were talented.

“Being nominated with Tshatha and Sakina in the category made me fear the award, and I was not expecting to win.

“I was in the same category with the top presenters I respect, especially Tshatha and Sakina. I didn’t imagine myself winning against them. Another reason I thought that I was not going to win is that I’m co-hosting with Tshatha on the same show,” she said.

She said her victory means she was still going far in his radio presenting career.

“My secret is listening to many different radio station, especially overseas radio stations.

“I always make sure that I get more information and more skills in radio presenting to develop myself. I think that has made the biggest difference in my career,” she said.

She recently scooped DStv Viewers' Choice Awards while she was nominated for Sunday Times Next Gen Award.
