MASKANDI music is mostly male dominated and some of its stars are known for teasing each other through their songs and engaging in verbal attacks.
However, Ukhozi FM presenter and afro-pop singer, Bingelela "Bings" Mpanza, who has spread her wings into maskandi music, said she will only perform maskandi songs, but will not get involved in maskandi wars and politics.
“I will make sure I’m not involved in maskandi wars and politics. I will ignore it if someone provokes me. I love peace in music and I respect music. I will never use it to fight others because I understand what I’m doing,” she said.
Bingela, who has released two maskandi singles titled, Soka Lami and Ubaba Wami, said she also wants to close the gap between women and men in maskandi music.
She said she is cooking a full album and also wants to teach other female musicians to take their music as a business.

“Many people encouraged me to continue with my musical talent. I’m not doing maskandi music to fight with others. I will fight for women to grow to the level of top male maskandi musicians.
“Male maskandi musicians have built amazing homes and have top cars while female maskandi musicians are left behind. I wish for female maskandi artists to shine and be at a higher level. I wish they get something good,” she said.
She added that it is important to have more women in the maskandi industry.
Bingelela joined the music industry in 2015 as an afro-pop musician. She released her debut single, Isibingelelo.
She joined Ukhozi FM in 2021.
