TV channel MTV Base has given TV presenter Tshego Koke a new life.

With the channel celebrating 17 years this month, the 30-year-old from Ga-Rankuwa in Tshwane remembers how the channel has contributed to his life and career.

He won the MTV Base presenter search in 2017 and has since become one of Mzansi’s biggest and celebrated presenters.

“Winning the MTV VJ Search, I think it gave birth to a new me. It literally changed my life and my family’s life.

“It’s something that will always be number one to mention when it comes to the paradigm shift in my life.

“It gave me a lot of validation to what I was doing at the time, what I had always wanted as a kid and to what I was dreaming about. This is why I say it basically gave birth to me and gave me a chance to reinvent myself into being Tshegofatso,” he told SunBuzz.

To celebrate 17 years, the channel is back on the streets. Tshego said he’s been happy to get back to mingling and socialising with people.

“We’ve re-established the field work. We toured with Konka, and we had a Durban tour, went to different places. It was really exciting, especially to see the amount of influence the channel has on the streets. It’s been great being part of that again and obviously coming out of the lockdown, trying to socialise with people again was great,” he said.

Just like the channel, Tshego is also growing in his space as an entertainer.

“The best part of my life right now is that I’m going through a reinvention of self in regards to my talent. Now that I’ve shaved my beard off, I’m now pushing fitness, which is something I used to do before MTV Base. I’m also getting into acting as well.

“I’ve been approached by some productions twice already, but I didn’t accept. However, now I feel I’ve established myself within the industry and I just want to have fun in it,” he said.
