TRIBUTES are pouring in for award-winning singer and songwriter, Zahara, who passed away on Monday, 11 December, leaving many of her fans heart broken.

In November 2023, the 36-year-old's family released a statement about her hospitalisation after she complained about body pain.

Politicians and industry colleagues have since shared their heartfelt condolences to the late singer's family.

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa said: "I am very saddened by the passing of Zahara. My deepest condolences to the Mkutukana family and the South African music industry. Government has been with the family for some time now."

He said Zahara, whose real name was Bulelwa Mkutukana, and her guitar made an incredible and lasting impact on South African music.

EFF spokesman Sinawo Thambo said the party was deeply saddened by the musician's death.

"Zahara must be remembered as a pioneer in the music industry, who broke through in an industry that often discards women and destroys the lives of those who enter it. She made a name through talent alone and her lasting memory in our hearts," he said.
