NEW-AGE soul artist, Thando Nje is over the moon after bagging her first major award nomination.
The singer-songwriter whose real name is Thando Sibanyoni (28) is nominated for Best New Age RnB Artist for her album, Our Story: Untold at the Metro FM Music Awards alongside Zadok, Venom, Shishiliza, Manana and Moe.
She spoke to Daily Sun about being nominated for the awards.
“That is the most amazing feeling. This is my second album and I’m very excited about that. I’ve never really thought about how winning would feel. But I know it would be a big deal especially because I’m an independent artist,” she said.
Thando said to bring it home would be big, it would validate her dreams. As it’s a checkbox she’s always wanted to check.
“So, I need for people to vote for me, voting lines close on 30 April,” Thando said.
The album she’s nominated for has also been doing well online and she’s proud of that.

“Our Story: Untold was released in early 2022, it’s about finding yourself as a person, about self-love, and being honest about your feelings. I featured Pretoria-based musicians, which is where I’m from. It’s currently sitting on about 400 000 plays online and that’s huge," the singer said.
Thando has made a name for herself in the music industry since she started in 2015.
“My love for music started in 2015 when I was in my first year of university. I started by doing covers, then I started writing and producing. However, finding my feet as a musician was quite a mission.
“Making my own music took time because I was trying to figure out my brand, genre and where I want my music to go. But I eventually found my sound,” she said.
The musician is also working on new music that’s coming soon.
“I’m working on my third album, and I should be dropping some visuals from my previous album as well. There’s quite a lot I’m working on right now,” Thando said.
