SAMKE Makhoba is on cloud nine after scoring two international nominations.
The 33-year-old actress has been nominated for Best Young/Promising Actor and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her character as Thandeka in the film Surviving Gaza at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
She told Daily Sun that she could not believe it that her first accolade ever was international.
She has been nominated alongside well-known African actresses such as Lydia Forson, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Dorcas Shola Fapson, Maryam S Waziri, Siti Amina and Ijeoma Grace Agu for Best Actress in a supporting role.

Samke from Pinetown, KZN, has starred on shows such as MTV Shuga, Netflix’s Collision, and is now on S3’s The Estate.
“I don’t understand why I was chosen. It took some time for it to sink in,” she said, adding that she was overwhelmed with gratitude.
“Even when somebody congratulates me, I still get a shock.”
She said she had never been nominated before.
“I keep asking myself why.”
Speaking about her role in Surviving Gaza, she said: “Thandeka is a young, ambitious lady. She wants to be a big star and will do anything to get it.
“But she has morals and does things the right way.”

Samke said winning both the awards would be lovely, but getting the nomination was already enough.
“To know that someone from South Africa was watching and saw me worthy of being nominated is wonderful,” she said.
Surviving Gaza received 13 nominations, including Best Director, Best Film In An African Language, and Best Actor in a Leading Role. “We kept counting the nominations over and over,” she said.
“Almost every department in the film is getting recognised.”
The awards will take place between 25 and 30 October in Lagos, Nigeria.
