A FAMOUS cinematographer's work on Mzansi Magic has been celebrated.

The multi-talented Ofentse Mwase has his lens pointed in the right direction.

The Rustenburg-born but now Joburg-based producer has captured the hearts of many with his latest work.

Ofentse shot a new music documentary called Pop Goes Freedom, a three-part series that follows Mzansi's big stars such as DJ Tira, Big Nuz and Pabi Cooper.

He told Daily Sun that filming the documentary was incredible, as he learnt a lot on the set.

"I had the opportunity to shoot a music film called Pop Goes Freedom, a three-part series that airs on Sundays 5pm on Mzanzi Magic, directed by Mpho Twala for Kaimal Pictures. This was a music documentary discussing and finding out the best songs in the last 30 years, and the post-apartheid songs era. We had the honour of talking to some of the biggest names,” he said.

Ofentse said they were told many stories of how some of Mzansi's hit songs came about.

"You will hear about all of these things in the series. It was a month-long shoot in South African cities, and it all turned out great," he said.

Ofentse said he enjoyed his time shooting this project.

"Everyone was so chilled and got to tell us many great stories. It’s exciting to work with all the big names in the South African music space," he said.

Ofentse is best known for shooting videos for stars like rapper Ntokozo "K.O" Mdluli and Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye.

"I’ve worked with half of the artists in the series before so, for me personally, it was like meeting old friends. Everything I learnt from them will be in the series," he said.

Ofentse said that most of the hits came about only because people were able to work together.

"Like the story of AKA and Burna Boy getting to do All Eyes On Me with the help of JR. The stories deserve to be heard.

"I’m shooting my next full-length feature film starting in May. I’ll be sharing details about it all on my social media," he said.
