SOCIAL media star Lasizwe Dambuza has decided to go on a sobriety journey.

On Tuesday 25 April, he celebrated one month of being sober, but he said it hasn't been easy.

Opening up to Daily Sun about his journey, the social media star said he has been going through a lot.

“To be honest, the reason I decided to do this was because I’m tired of alcohol. When we go out a lot and I drink alcohol, I get anxious and end up making decisions I might regret in the morning. That happens a lot.

“Also, I’ve been going through a lot in my personal life, and I need to deal with that sober-minded,” Lasizwe said.

Lasizwe said what makes the journey hard is attending social events which are filled with alcohol.

“It’s very weird especially with social events because people expect you to drink. So, I just try to get a mocktail or something that isn’t alcoholic. Someone once said I’ll judge them when they’re drunk, so there’s already an expectation for me to drink so everyone can have fun.

“Plus, it’s not easy because when you’re drunk you have a good time. And reaching that level of happiness is not easy when you’re sober because you start thinking of your problems,” he said.

However, he said he’s learnt a lot about himself through this journey.

“Besides being difficult, it’s been very interesting. You get to understand a lot about yourself and have conversations. That’s when self-awareness jumps in and you realise you can have fun even when you’re sober,” he said.

Lasizwe said the goal is to control his drinking.

“I would like to have self-control on when I drink alcohol and when I don’t want to. For example, I want to consume alcohol when I celebrate something. But even then, I don’t want to get drunk, I just want to drink enough and not exceed.

“And another thing that makes it dope is that all my friends are participating. We’re all influencing each other and enjoying this time together,” Lasizwe said.
