STHABILE Zungu, well-known as Slenda da Dancing DJ, is happily claiming her spot in the entertainment industry.
She is currently working with Smirnoff on Shayingoma – a competition that offers mentorship to female DJs, and is one of the judges alongside Oskido and Miss Pru.
“I am honoured to be working with such a big brand and to see that I am valued as a gqom artist in this piano-dominated era.

“Gigs have been coming slowly this year, but I am back,” she said. The Durban-born star learnt how to DJ during the lockdown and has been bagging gigs.
“I saw the lockdown as a chance to develop myself. I spent most times at infotainment studies, where I learnt how to spin the decks,” said Slenda, who started her career as a member of the Amadada dancing group.
The group then joined DJ Tira’s record label after she was approached by Tipcee, asking her to be her backing dancer in 2017.
From then, she started dancing for DJ Tira and travelling all over the world with him.
She said she saw a need to grow and develop herself as an artist.

“A friend advised me to find a deejaying school so I went to Exclusive Productions in my home town of Lamontville and learnt the skill.” she said.
Slenda’s career bloomed in 2021 when she became a resident DJ on Ukhozi FM and is happy with the positive response she got.
“I realised that I am gifted enough to make my own music. So I decided to record an EP, with lead song Landela featuring the Qwabe twins.” Though she’s happy to have broken into the industry, Slenda said it has opened her eyes to things she used to overlook.
“People I thought would support me never did. I got support from strangers than from people I know,” she said, adding that she will be dropping new beats next year.
