THE late DJ Skinny Deep has been remembered.

Skinny Deep, whose real name was Duduetsang Gift Maluleka, was celebrated during a memorial service at Mabopane Resort (previously known as Morula Sun) on Friday, 2 February.

Artists such as MDK, Tempty, DJ Cooper, 8teen, Starzan, Supergeek, Bojwa, Kazzmo, Josta, Ms. Amza, #ImNotADj, Lemoza, and TeamR5 performed a variety of genres to commemorate Sknny Deep's life.

The venue was full of a very hipped crowd that kept singing, "Skinny, we want to party," like he used to do at clubs when he was deejayin.

During the memorial service, it was said that the music industry is cursed, gun violence is the new standard, and criminals are worshiped, which is really sad.

Ofentse Mathipa, also known as Mawisa from TUT FM, the programme director and close associate who was emotional during the memorial service, constantly reminded fellow mourners that there isn’t enough time in the world, and that people must spend it with the people they love and care about.

She said that Skinny Deep was going to begin his gig as a resident DJ, which was a much-needed breakthrough for him because he had not received enough recognition and exposure.

“I last saw him here on the 31st of December; what hurts me the most is that I never got a chance to listen to his latest tracks, which he needed my input on." She said tearfully that she would do everything in her ability to give him the dignified farewell he deserved.

Layla Ditshego, a friend and neighbour  of Skinny Deep, told Daily Sun that she feels robbed, as if he was unexpectedly taken away from him sadly by being at a wrong place with the wrong crowd and at the wrong time.

She said that that he usually recommended her for cooking jobs because she loves cooking and handles catering.

"Skinny Deep was a jolly, loving, and very caring person who always wanted people from his circle to win," she remarked, adding that he was selfless and incredibly supportive.

Mike Maluleka, the deceased's uncle, stated that the memorial service went well and that he is grateful to Skinny Deep's friends and colleagues for helping them understand how they work during the night while they’re asleep.

He said that the police are yet to provide an update on the case's developments.

"On Sunday, he will be laid to rest at his home in Block U in Mabopane. The family will start by visiting the scene to perform rituals and the programme will be held at his home in Mabopane block U before proceeding to Odi Cemetery,” he said.
