FAMILY, friends and fans are mourning a giant of the airwaves.
Umhlobo Wenene FM broadcaster and gospel singer, Bulelani Koyo, lost his battle against cancer on Monday, 4 July.
Bulelani was forced to stop working last month due to ill health.
On hearing about the state of his health and his finances, friends held a benefit concert for him on Sunday, 3 July.
Family spokesman Andile Kunju said: “Bulelani was diagnosed with liver cancer in March. Although we knew there was nothing we could do, hHis passing left us shocked and sad.
“We He passed on in the presence of his family, surrounded with love. “As a family, we understand that Bulelani was a beacon of hope to all South Africans as he was playing an outstanding role in the education and development of both young and old through his workappeal to people to allow him to rest in peace and give the family the privacy to grieve.”
Information about the memorial service and funeral arrangements will be shared as soon as the family finalises them.

His colleagues on Umhlobo Wenene FM took to social media to express their condolences.
Aphakama Kato wrote: “The corridors of SABC will never be the same again, Mazaleni (clan name).
“All that remains of him is a bag full of memories that we will cherish for years to come.” Although we know by now you are permanently rested, we are reciting a prayer of strength and courage to your family during this difficult time.
Busisiwe Titi said: “Bulelani Koyo lived his best life, genuinely loved by listeners. It was an honour and privilege to work with him.”
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane said: “At the height of Covid-19, BK as he was affectionately known, recorded and published a song that brought comfort and strength to many households. We’ve lost a great son of the soil.”
