Afro-soul singer and sangoma Lady X returns with a love melody.
Afro-soul singer and sangoma Lady X returns with a love melody.

AFTER feeling demotivated from making music, Lady X is back in the music scene. This after she was told to give executives a cut for her nomination for an award.

The Afro-soul singer and sangoma, whose real name is Xolisa Mvula, has a new song titled Dali Wami.

In an interview with Daily Sun, the 34-year-old artist said the song is a heartfelt expression of love.

“The song is a raw, unfiltered, passionate love and a plea for forgiveness, with the promise to never fight nor repeat your past mistakes. It encourages people to learn from their mistakes and become better persons, lovers and partners,” she said.

As Lady X adapts to her new life as isangoma and the new realities and responsibilities that come with answering her calling, she said she was blessed to be able to share the new chapter of her life in music and authenticity with the blessing of her ancestors.

Dali Wami came in my dreams, like most of my melodies do now. That's when I knew ‘ivunyiwe ngabadala’, I went into the studio and recorded the demo with my engineer, the third verse took me a month and it just came to me one day.

I called Mojalefe Thebe and asked him what he thought, and he moved me to take the third verse up and give it the emotion and pain it needed, and when I delivered it in studio I cried before recording for an hour in the toilet, breaking and then the sound poured out of me,” she said.

She said the song's aim is to let people know that it’s okay to love and that the pain that comes with love is okay.

“Love has to be authentic because without that authenticity, it'll fail,” she said.

She said she wanted Mzansi to hear her voice and new sound.

“I want them to listen to my song and voice because it's been blessed and chosen ngabantu abadala and it gives me a chance to be in their lives, to be part of their everyday playlist because this song and what I have to offer deserve that chance. It's me giving my all,” she said.
