CONGRATULATIONS are in order for KZN actors.
On Thursday, 6 July, the KZN Film Commission announced the nominees for KZN FILM & Television Awards 2023.
The nomination event took place at Durban ICC in KZN.
The main event will be held on Saturday, 22 July, under the theme, "Honoring Excellence - A Decade of Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards".
Programme director and nominee, Sphesihle Vazi, said: "This is the 10th anniversary of the Simon 'Mabhunu' Sabela Awards. It means that for 10 years, we have been celebrating and recognising those who have contributed to filmmaking and also to television through their art and through the eye of the lens."
He shared a little about the story of Simon, saying: "He was not only a visionary, but also a filmmaker and an actor.
"He made a huge contribution in the film industry. He became a beacon of hope for all who are passionate about the profession of acting and filmmaking. We should be proud that we had people like him in KZN.

“KZN Film has played an important role in nurturing and promoting the film industry in the province of KZN. Through the initiatives of the programme, the KZN Film created countless opportunities for filmmakers such as me, empowering them in showcasing their talent and amplifying their voice.
“I am from Newcastle, and I never thought I’d stand on this stage and deliver this speech but today it has happened. KZN is quite a breathtaking province in terms of its landscape, as well as its vibrant cultural and heritage. It has attracted many filmmakers around the world.”
The acting chief executive officer, Victor Senna said: "On Saturday, 22 July, we will be recognising and appreciating the talent that exists in this province.
"July is our film month as KZN as we have different activities happening, such as Durban Film Mart, Durban International Film Festival and more importantly, we have the Simon 'Mabhunu' Sabela Award."
