THE South African Traditional Music Awards (Satmas) are asking people not to confuse them with the South African Music Awards (Samas).
Satmas organisers said the confusion started when the KZN government cancelled the SAMAs, which were meant to be held at the Durban ICC on 17 to 18 November 2023, with many people mistakenly confusing the Satmas and Samas.
They said they are getting calls from people and artists asking what is happening as the awards were cancelled.
However, the Satmas will be held in DCC Dome in Durban on 15 December 2023.
Satmas spokesman Keletso Dlamini told Daily Sun their phones are flooded with calls of people, asking why they should continue to vote with their money when the awards were cancelled.
“We are asking people not to confuse Satmas and Samas. Even the musicians who are nominated are calling us, asking why they should continue to ask for votes if the awards were cancelled? Satmas were not cancelled and all things are going as planned,” he said.

Keletso said they want to assure everyone that the awards are back in KZN after three years in Mpumalanga. He said the awards will spend three years in KZN before moving to another province.
“Because Satmas are national awards, they spend only three years in the province and move on to another province. This year, we are back in the province where the awards started 18 years ago, but we will only spend three years and after that we will move to another province yet to be identified,” he said.
He said there are 28 categories, which will be voted for by the public. Voting lines close on 14 December 2023.
Keletso said the Satmas is running a competition where if one person buys a two-ticket combo, they stand a chance to win one of four pairs of sneakers.
Among those nominated are Inkabi Zezwe, who have been nominated in the Most Voted Song of the Year category.
