SAGWATI Baloyi has made it to the Mr South Africa competition’s top 30 semi-finalists.

The 27-year-old, who is a chef at heart, grew up on the streets of Riverplaats Village, Limpopo, and later moved to Gauteng.

He said he was excited to be one of the chosen hunks in Mzansi and part of the popular pageant.

“I come from a small village where people are not exposed to many things. When I decided to enter Mr South Africa, I first thought of how the experience would change my life,” he told Daily Sun.

“But I decided to enter for myself and the people of my village, to show them that you can do it because your past does not determine your tomorrow.”

He said that he knew the platform would open doors for many to find the courage and say if he could do it, so could they.

Sagwati said he also wanted to encourage people and his peers that it was all about how high one could go.

He told the People’s Paper that his inspiration for modelling came from his love of fashion.

“I also like looking good. I find my body to be that of a model in terms of height and skin tone,” he told the People’s Paper.

Being one of the contestants has been a very interesting journey for him.

“My Mr South Africa journey has been a roller-coaster of emotions and challenges, which brought about being humble and being disciplined. Not only do I compete with other contestants, but I also compete with myself first,” he said.
