MOTSWAKO originator and rapper Khuli Chana released a new song on Friday, 13 October.
The 41-year-old No More Hunger hitmaker has been killing Mzansi hip-hop scene for years, and now he told Daily Sun that he's rebranding.
He said the song Khuliyano is inspired by the golden era of kwaito.
“TKZ, Thebe, amapiano, motswako and the '90s hip-hop are my inspiration,” he said.
Khuli Chana explained what the song is about.
“The song is about legendary status, recreating the sound and re-introducing myself as KhuliYano,” he said.

The rapper said before he became Khuli Chana, his stage name was Don Khuliano.
“I'm going back to the beginning but also identifying with the new sounds, the most influential 'YANOs' movement. Khuliyano is the beginning of a subgenre which infuses rap, amapiano, kwaito, house and more,” he said.
Khuli Chana said he worked with a new generation of music in Mzansi.
“A young Malawian producer by the name of Kevin Vino Chiledzi, LunatiK, the founder of the sub-genre Skhanda, Dj Slim and Zadok who is behind the success of AKA’s Mass Country album. On the vocals, I got the legendary KayGizm, Stino Le Thwenny from my classic hit “Buyile” and the young talented Luigi Anywhere," he said.
Khuli Chana said his song is a mix of the old and the new.
“It is beautifully executed to take you back and bring you to the new wave. It's a classic summer hit,” he said.
