Big Xhosa is now Sesethu.
Big Xhosa is now Sesethu.

RAPPER Big Xhosa has changed his name again.

He released a statement on Monday, 27 March, asking that people call him Sesethu, Xhosa or X.

The controversial musician, whose real name is Sesethu Myeki (25), said he will no longer be making music as Big Xhosa.

He said Big Xhosa made a name for himself by singing explicit songs and starting beef with fellow rappers, but he no longer wants to do that.

“I would first like to thank everyone who has supported me through this whole journey up until this point. However, it has come to a point where now I need to take a different direction with my music, brand and content.

“This means that I will no longer be doing music as the Big Xhosa character, the comedic side of music, trolling and swearing has come to an end,” he said.

Sesethu said he is not Big Xhosa and he is tired of pretending.

“The truth is, this Big Xhosa character is not me and what I represent. I cannot continue pretending to be a person I'm not. I just had to become this just so I can bring attention to my real work and my music which worked well because you know me now. I saw an opportunity in humour and I took advantage of it. I had to go that route to get myself here. The character has become bigger than what I expected it or planned it to be and it,” he said.

The rapper said he also doesn’t like the lyrics he sang as Big Xhosa.

“I have also seen the influence my music as the Big Xhosa character has had on kids as I would meet a lot of them and they would sing to me the explicit songs or language I used in my music and they are not even at an age to sing such stuff. That's why sometimes I'd go for months and months without releasing anything because I can't continue like this.

Sesethu as he now calls himself, says what matters the most is the music/content he produces from now on.

He said it won't be easy but with the support from his fans, he'll do it.

"I refuse to continue living up to something or a character I am not,” he said.

Last year January, he spoke to Daily Sun when he changed his name to SOS.

He said the Big Xhosa character was affecting his reputation.

“It’s associated with the negative stuff I used to sing about, like not taking the vaccine.

I was joking, but brands are taking it seriously and turning me down. It is messing up my business,” he said.
