SENI Msenyana Zondi is counting his blessings following an attack by thugs.

The incident happened in the Durban CBD, KZN, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 7 September.

TheDivine TouchRadio presenter was heading home from work when the attack happened.

“I use that passage every day, to and from work. I’ve never noticed anything suspicious. It’s very quiet in the mornings but as the day progresses, it gets crowded with people and street vendors,” he said.

“On Wednesday morning I was walking behind a man when he suddenly dropped a bag full of money.”

But the bag contained papers stacked in such a way that you’d think it’s real money. “I quickly realised what was happening and I walked past the bag. Another man picked it up and called the owner, but he pretended to be on the phone,” said the DJ.

The man who picked up the bag then offered to share it with Seni.

“I knew he was trying to trick me, so I declined his offer. He wouldn’t leave me alone but eventually he lost his patience and left.”

He said he was only a few steps away when both men appeared and attacked him. “This time around they had big knives. They demanded my phone and wallet. They threatened to stab me if I resisted. I had R1 700 on me and they took it along with my phone.”

He said he didn’t open a case with the police. “I’ve lost hope with the justice system and I felt it would be a waste of my time.”

Thenjiswa Ngcobo of the KZN police said: “If he wants this incident to be investigated he can open a case but he is not forced to do so.”
