Drumpope, and Ntsika Ngxanga have come together to form Prayer Warriors.

Afro pop duo Prayer Warriors have released their first single Mvelinqangi from their upcoming self-titled EP.

The duo is made up of vocalist Ntsika Ngxanga, who is a member of The Soil and versatile producer, arranger and remixer, Drumpope.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Ntsika said: “In the middle of 2021, I crossed paths with Oskido. He asked me to write a couple of songs for Idols SA singers and the person who was producing the songs was Drumpope. In late 2021, I called him and said we should tap into the Afro-pop sound.”

He said they decided to name themselves Prayer Warriors because of the significance of praying in Africa.

Ntsika assured the fans of The Soil that he is not leaving the group.

“I will never leave The Soil and we are releasing a single called Thandwa Ndim with Thee Legacy ahead of the album,” he said.

Ntsika said while working on Mvelinqangi, he referenced gospel singer Bethusile Mcinga’s Nyange Lemihla without realising it. “When I did my research, I found out that a part of the song referenced Bethusile. So I called him and we are in the process of crediting him and giving him his share of royalties,” said Ntsika.

He said the next single from Prayer Warriors’ EP is Nguwe. The 7-track EP will drop on 7 October and it’s about telling the world how Africans pray and relate to God and their ancestors.
