MULTI-AWARD-WINNING poet Magcwabe Imbongi’s dream to take poetry to another level and make people recognise it, is finally coming true.

Magcwabe, whose real name is Mbalenhle Mabaso, will host her 4th annual poetry show called a Poetic Night with Magcwabe on Friday, 28 October at Premier Hotel in Richards Bay, KZN.

She’ll share the stage with her village poets to give them a platform to showcase their poetic talent.

Magcwabe told SunBuzz that she’s happy her attempt to make people recognise poetry is becoming a reality.

“In 2019, I started this poetry show to give the poets in my village a platform and to also make people recognise poetry as entertainment,” she said.

Magcwabe said her show has managed to give many poets the courage to make a living out of poetry.

“I’m also stopping the bad thinking that poetry is for performance at schools only, and I want people to know that poetry is entertainment just like music.

“I’m happy that people are starting to recognise poetry as they come to our shows in their numbers to support us.”

Magcwabe said because of the support she got from people, she decided to host this year’s show at a luxury hotel in her home town.

“I’m so grateful that people are excited and many have bought tickets in advance.

“In previous shows, people were not buying tickets in advance and they preferred to buy at the doors during the show, and that always made me doubt if they would attend but I kept pushing because I wanted poetry to be recognised.”

Poets such as Nonhle Mkhize Indoni, Mjunda, Xolile Ndima, K7 Imbongi, Ijaji The Poet and Sisanda Mthethwa will performat the event. Rapper Zakwe will also perform.
