IT has always been Khabonina Qubeka's dream to inspire young people through dance and her dream has finally come true.

She has started a foundation called Khabonina Foundation. The actress said with her program Edudance she has been visiting local schools.

The 42-year-old said she has always included programmes for young people throughout her career.

"Before the Khabonina Foundation was even registered, I had already been regulating schools through Edudance - education through dance. I use dance as a tool to bring out the best in kids. Through the Edudance structure, school subjects can be taught with more fun and excitement,” she said.

“I have travelled to Canada for the Milk Children’s Festival where I taught Edudance and drama. I toured most of Canada performing as well as teaching youngsters in Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Toronto.

"I have impacted South African schools through Edudance in places like Soweto and Alexandra. A prominent school that I developed over three years through the programme was Hillcrest school in Melville in Joburg,” she said.

Khabonina has choreographed a lot of shows including youth events at church such as the  Universal Church New Year’s Eve kids performance show.

“Most schools have lost physical training and guidance classes due to budget. This programme helps with that. I work with a therapist on this,” she said.

She said ever since she did the SABC2 show, Grand Masters, she now understands people's challenges.

"Teachers are imperative to the foundation and this programme. Our focus is the Eastern Cape now. Young people need to be kept busy," she said.

Khabonina said there is more in store for her this year.

She said a hot new series will come out mid-year and there's a lot more under her skin products Khanatural.
