ON Thursday, 18 May, Mzansi welcomed a new streaming platform that promises to captivate audiences.

Disney + has finally launched in the country, and a celebration was held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Kyalami, Midrand.

It saw celebrities such as Mihlali Ndamase, Lasizwe Dambuza, Tumisho Masha, DJ Sabby, Roxy Burger, Connie Chiume, and Nthati Moshesh walking the blue carpet.

The launch also took place in different venues around the country, including Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, The Silos at Zeitz Museum in Cape Town and Soccer City in Joburg.

Those in attendances had high expectations for the streaming platform, with presenter DJ Sabby hoping that it would help local producers.

“I’m looking forward to learning more about Disney + and what it’s going to offer. Showmax and Netflix have been investing in local industry, so what will it offer the local industry? I’d love to see,” he said.

YouTubers Regomoditswe and Modise Khoele, better known as Regodise, were also excited.

Then MTV Base VJ and YouTuber Shamiso Mosaka said she knew Disney + would bring great productions.

“I’ve already watched Pam & Tommy, so I’m excited to see the rest of SA’s reaction to it. I can’t wait to see what it brings to the table,” she said.
