VETERAN actor Darlington Michaels is back on TV!
He’ll play Gap on Mzansi Magic’s new drama series, Vula Vala.
Darlington, known to many as SABC3 soapie Isidingo’s Papa G, said fans had wondered where he was after disappearing from the small screen in 2016.
“I suffered a stroke and this forced me to take a break from work, and focus on my health. My screen time was cut short because of the stroke.”

Darlington said although he’d not fully recovered, he was getting there.
“I’m making progress in terms of healing, and I’ll get there eventually.
“I returned to TV because this is what I love. I’d like to assure my fans that I’m back for good.
“It feels great to be back and doing something I’m passionate about.”
Darlington said even though Papa G mostly spoke tsotsi Afrikaans, his new character speaks tsotsi Zulu.
“I play a hustler by the name of Gap who runs an illegal gambling ring and lives in a back room in Soweto.”
Darlington said Gap is different from Papa G, who was flashy and rich.
The 61-year-old said he was very sad when Isidingo was cancelled. He’d been with the show for 21 years.

“This was the show that launched my career, and to see it end was so disheartening. But I understand the SABC is running a business.”
Darlington said he was grateful to have been part of the show, which gave him a name as an actor.
“I’ve grateful for the support my fans have shown me,” he said.
“I didn’t mean to be a stranger.
“I was fighting for my life.”
